Prof. Şahin completed his Bachelor’s degree in 1977 and his Master’s degree in 1988 at Gazi University, Ankara. In 1995, with the support of YÖK, he carried out his PhD research at Aston University, UK, focusing on the development of metal matrix composites and their mechanical and wear properties.

He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor at Gazi University in 1995, became Associate Professor in 1996, and Professor in 2002. During this period, he also lectured at the Military Academy and Atılım University. In 2011, he transferred to the Faculty of Technology at Gazi University and later conducted research at Virginia Tech in 2013 and at Ghent University, Belgium, between 2015 and 2016.

After retiring from Gazi University in 2018, he continued his academic journey at Near East University and later at Nişantaşı University. He successfully led projects on hybrid composites, established Mechanical Test and Composite Production Laboratories, and was recognized by Stanford University as one of the world’s top 2% scientists based on his research contributions between 1996 and 2020. He also served as chairman for international congresses in 2021 and 2022.

Since October 2022, Prof. Şahin has been working at OSTIM Technical University, Department of Mechanical Engineering. His fields of expertise include machine tools, manufacturing processes, powder metallurgy, wear and friction, experimental design, and artificial neural networks. He has presented at numerous national and international symposiums, published more than 160 articles in leading journals, and authored five books.
