Prof. Dr. Demiral Akbar received his B.Sc. (1993), M.Sc. (1996), and Ph.D. (2006) in Plasma and High Energy Physics from Middle East Technical University (METU) and conducted research at TAC, TEXTOR, and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf.
He has contributed to renewable energy and energy storage systems, focusing on hydrogen production and storage technologies, including high-efficiency tanks, cryogenic systems, and solid-state hydrogen carriers for aerospace and industrial applications.
Since 2019, he has led industry-integrated R&D projects on sustainable manufacturing, digital transformation, smart manufacturing, IIoT, blockchain-based energy systems, and green technologies.
He also works on life cycle engineering, lean production, and Industry 4.0 decision-support tools, collaborating with industry to integrate emerging technologies, particularly hydrogen, to achieve decarbonization in manufacturing and infrastructure.
