Dr. Kilkis received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with high honors from Middle East Technical University and graduated in 1972 from the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium with honors.

He has worked extensively in heat transfer, unified heat transfer theory, fluid dynamics, quantum mechanics, energy strategies, hydrogen and renewable energy systems, sustainable aviation, and district energy systems. He co-authored a recent book on cogeneration with renewables and has published over 600 papers across various journals and conferences.

Since 1972, he has led numerous industrial projects, including a NATO Science for Stability project on a decentralized 1.5 MW co-generating fluidized-bed power plant, and DOE contracts on fluidized-bed heat transfer modeling. Between 1998 and 1999, he managed projects on snow and ice melting systems for Air Force bases, fighter jets, and Navy helicopter pads.

He has taught at METU, Gannon University, University of Missouri Rolla, and Başkent University. Currently, he serves as Regional Distinguished Lecturer of ASHRAE, vice-chair, and WP1 Leader in ETIP Renewable Heating and Cooling in the European Union, Brussels.
