Prof. Dr. Harun Bilirgen completed his M.S. and Ph.D. studies at the Energy Research Center of Lehigh University (USA), where his research focused on experimental and numerical investigations of two-phase gas-particle flows in pneumatic conveying systems. He later conducted postdoctoral research in the Chemical Engineering Department at Lehigh University between 2000 and 2002.

From 2002 to 2013, he served as Principal Research Scientist at Lehigh University’s Energy Research Center in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His work addressed thermal efficiency enhancement, combustion and process optimization, emission reduction and compliance, CO₂ capture and storage, waste heat and water recovery, and the integration of industrial waste into energy systems. He also conducted research on algae production from wastewater and flue gas using photobioreactors, coal drying and beneficiation, and CFD-based design and optimization. During this period, he published extensively, presented at international conferences, and was awarded eight U.S. patents.

In late 2013, he returned to Turkey with the aim of transferring his expertise in energy and environmental technologies. He established an R&D company that has undertaken applied projects in Turkey, the U.S., Mexico, and Indonesia, focusing on sustainable solutions for the energy sector.

His recent work emphasizes renewable energy, particularly micro-hydro turbine design and implementation. He continues to lead TÜBİTAK-supported research projects that contribute to advancing clean energy technologies and their practical applications.
